Monday, March 24, 2008 Camera Club of Davao turns 25 By Jojie Alcantara Witerary
MY FAVORITE people at the Camera Club of Davao have invited me to host their silver anniversary, charter night, and induction of new officers, together with "Tay" Rene Lumawag (the Tatay became a moniker even as he exudes youthfulness in his veteran age today).
Held at Lispher Inn, the event was graced by Councilors Leo Avila and Suzabel Reta, Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz who represented Mayor Rody Duterte, and Vice Mayor Sara Duterte as the guest speaker.
Awards were given away to four "Photographer of the Year 2007" honorees Paul Borromeo, Michael Li, Rene Lumawag, with Rolando "Chiaw" Yap as the first placer.
There was no gavel to turn over, so past president Joe Benavides "handed over" his camera in a turnover ceremony of responsibilities to new president William Noel.
Vice Mayor Sara herself inducted the new set of officers, with an acceptance speech by the new president.
This year's new set of officers includes Paul Borromeo (vice president), Rolando Yap (secretary), Michael Li (treasurer), Joseph Garcia (PRO), and Joe Benavides, Rene Lumawag, Norman Jadulang and Cesar Palima as directors.
Rhonson Ng, Dexter Tan, Arnel Villegas, Frank Lim and Councilor Leo Avila were appointed judges in the photo competition among the members and the winners were announced after the party.
Gracing the event was CCD member and guest Lito Sy, whose Portrait Photography workshop was sponsored by the CCD and was successfully conducted a day before the anniversary.
My heartfelt congratulations to the team whom I look up to as my brothers (older, older brothers indeed!), whose camaraderie and kinship as professionals have spanned 25 years of solidarity as a group, who have set good examples to young photographers.
Here's hoping to see their planned coffee table book on Davao soon! E-mail writer at jojiealcantara@gmail.com or visit her website www.witerary.com.
