Monday, March 24, 2008 Mayor censures airport taxis anew
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has again called on taxi drivers in the Davao International Airport to refrain from harassing their passengers and threatened to crack down on them if they continue with such acts.
Calling the taxi drivers "kumpare" in a sarcastic tone, he addressed the drivers, saying, "You were given franchises to serve the public."
The mayor was reacting to a letter sent to him through his television program from a passenger forced off a taxi at Buhangin Crossing after he rode it at the airport.
"If that is the case, stop being a taxi driver and be a jeepney driver para pwede ka magsige hunong sa bawat kanto," Duterte said.
During the middle of last year, Duterte gave out a stern warning to taxi drivers who reportedly do not enforce the meter-scheme or those who refuse to take passengers who live some distance away from the city center. (CPM)
