Hedcor turns over school building in Tugbok

HEDCOR Inc., in partnership with the Aboitiz Group Foundation, Inc. (Agfi), recently turned over a one-classroom building to Tugbok National High School (TNHS) in line with the company's ongoing program to support public education in host communities.

The classroom is worth P450,000 and was turned over complete with desks and other standard amenities intended for use by the senior class of TNHS.

School principal Reuel Alvarez and Parents-Teachers Community Association president Alex Amante received the classroom in behalf of the school from Hedcor grid manager Emmanuel Medelo.

The Hedcor official also spoke of the company's desire to continue supporting the Tugbok community.

Hedcor and the Aboitiz Foundation are committed to help the school achieve its goal of providing a better educational experience to its students, Medelo said. This is just the start of our long partnership, he added.

Also present during the ceremonies were City Councilor Myrna Daludo-Ortiz, Tugbok barangay captain Elena Baclaan, DepEd Assistant School Division Superintendent Ma. Antonia Diaz, and Mintal Comprehensive High School (MCHS) principal Fortunato Sagayno.

Baclaan expressed the community's gratitude after the company saw the school's real situation and need for a classroom, Councilor Ortiz added.

"We are fortunate that another Aboitiz company has come to Davao. Our best way to thank Hedcor for their support is to utilize well what they have provided us."

Hedcor donated one school building in Catalunan Pequeño National High School in 2006, increasing its total educational infrastructure project spending to more than P1.8 million in just two years. Aside from this, the company has also turned over 50 computer units to various host community high schools in Benguet and Davao.

Hedcor, a subsidiary of publicly listed Aboitiz Power Corporation, owns and operates 15 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 38.22 megawatts.

Included in these facilities are the five Talomo mini hydropower plants, which supplies Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) an average of 26 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually. Hedcor is also developing the 42.5 megawatt Sibulan Hydropower Project in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
