Thursday, March 27, 2008 Mindanao products should bear common branding: exec By Joy Romares-Sevilla
THE chair of the Federation of Business Chambers (FBC) in Mindanao Foundation Inc. said products produced in different regions in Mindanao should have a common Mindanao brand.
Elena Haw, FBC in Mindanao chair and director of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in Mindanao, said Tuesday that the common Mindanao brand for products produced in Mindanao could boost the island's economy.
"We will propose the branding of goods produced in the region as 'Mindanao Ini' so that Mindanao products will have their own identity. The producers should carry this Mindanao brand and sub-brand it with their respective regional branding," Haw said.
It was learned that the proposal of branding products from Mindanao would be discussed during the 3rd Mindanao Trade, Investment, and Tourism (MTIT) Congress on April 7 to 13 in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
"We did make consultations about it and we hope to push for the implementation of the branding. It is just right that the first to promote Mindanao products should also be Mindanaoans," Haw said.
She added that the implementation of the "Mindanao Ini" branding, if ever it will be approved during the MTIT Congress, would not actually be an expense on the part of the producers.
"I wouldn't think it would be an expense to the producers, it is an investment," she said.
The total concept of the branding will be tackled during the congress, Haw said.
"As of now, we still cannot say how would it be implemented and who will set the standards for the branding, pag-uusapan pa," she said.
