Friday, March 28, 2008 Duterte to cops: Apprehend non-roadworthy vehicles
DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte urged the Davao City Police not to hesitate in apprehending vehicles that are not roadworthy.
These are vehicles with defective signal lights and those lacking in parts such as rear view mirrors that are essential to the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.
"Dakpa na ninyo. Ayaw na mo paghulat sa LTO kay kulang man ilang tao. In the meantime you are placing people in jeopardy due to confusion on the appropriate charges," said Duterte referring to the hesitation of the police in apprehending violators due to uncertainties over what charge to file against violators.
The mayor added that the police could impound the vehicles not because of traffic violations, as those are directly under LTO's jurisdiction, but because the vehicles pose a danger to the lives of the public.
"You are seizing the vehicle because it is not supposed to be operated in public in the first place. Ibutang ninyo sa reports that this is pursuant to the verbal order of the mayor," Duterte said. (GLP)
