Involvement of cops in karera probed
By Carlo P. Mallo

AS NAMES of members of the police force surface as the ones behind the operation and protection of the illegal gambling game video karera, the Police Regional Office 11 vowed that no one will be above the law.

In an interview Wednesday, Chief Supt. Lito Calingasan, police deputy regional director for administration, said investigation on the alleged involvement of police officers in video karera operation in the city is now ongoing.

"The standing order is to arrest anyone involved in video karera," Calingasan said. "Whether they are uniformed officers or civilians, they will be arrested."

In Davao City alone, five police officials were relieved from their posts and transferred to different provincial police stations in Southern Mindanao due to reports that they were involved in the operation and protection of video karera in their respective areas of responsibilities.

"It will be a concerted effort between the Philippine National Police and the Regional Intelligence Division," Calingasan said.

A source told Sun.Star Davao that the operation of video karera is a multi-million industry that is reportedly being run by some powerful officials in the government.
