JAN Paolo Javier of Polomolok, South Cotabato beat his opponents in two age-group categories at the start of the Head 2008 Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit Davao City leg held at the Ecoland Phase 4 Tennis Courts on Saturday.
Javier turned back Billy Tapucar, 6-1, 6-1 in the boys 12-under event then he followed it up with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Agusan's Clyde Ladimora in 14-under.
The Polomolok standout arranged a second round clash against Bobong Cantila in 12-under.
Davao City bet Clee Jay Albaño drew first blood by whipping JR Gealon, 6-0, 6-2, in boys 18-under of the five-day tournament organized by Philippine Tennis Association regional vice-president Juanito Cansino Jr. and sponsored by Dynamic Sports Corporation.
Cebu City's Godfrey Seno was still playing Ralph Diama of Tupi, South Cotabato in 10-under unisex on court 1, while Cantila was battling Ivan Diamante in the other court as of press time Saturday.
Boys 18-under top-seed El Santo Santos of Davao City was set to collide with Paterno Celeste, while Juan Paolo Cansino drew byes in the boys 14-under and 16-under divisions where he is top seed.
Other must-see players are Macy Solon of Dumaguete City and Janelle Carmella Llavore of Cagayan de Oro City.
The netfest drew a total of 103 entries from all over Mindanao.
It stakes trophies, tennis equipment and Philta ranking points to the winners.
The circuit will also hold legs in Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Iloilo, Cebu, Baguio and Metro Manila.
