METROLIFESTYLE Fitness Center & Spa has recently added a new cardio workout to its dynamic and high-energy PowerClasses program.
Created by dance expert Corbett Alforque along with PowerJam instructor Mobie Escamis, PowerFunk is an incorporation of funk, jazz, krumping & hip hop into a full cardiovascular workout class.
Funk is a highly rhythmic African American street dance style characterized by popping, locking and related dance styles usually performed to funk music, hip-hop and electronica.
Hip-hop is essentially a street dance style culled from the African American music genre and subculture. Jazz dance is combination of several related dance styles having common roots in tap dancing, ballet, jazz music, and African-American rhythms and dance.
Krumping is relatively a new form of street dance characterized by free, expressive, and highly energetic moves.
This power-packed class held a two-hour special launching last March 12 at 5:30 p.m. AT the Group Exercise Studio of MetroLifestyle. The workout creator Corbett Alforque and co-presenter Mobie Escamis headed the launch.
The event was presented in part by Coca Cola Zero & Nature Spring Drinking Water. Special thanks goes out to Ms. Marisse Go (Platinum member, Bollywood, & Annual Mini-Aero Marathon Champion).
A totally choreographed dance routine from start to finish, PowerFunk is a high impact 60-minute dance workout using a fusion of street dance styles for mobility, cardiovascular strength and increased fitness level.

Will I still get a good workout doing PowerFunk?
Absolutely! The routines are designed to give you a great fun workout. With a mix of jazz, hip hop, krumping and funky movements you'll definitely know that dancing isn't hard-it's all about having fun with movement and music.
What should I wear?
PowerFunk is a class for freedom and self-expression so feel free to use the workout gear that makes you feel comfortable. Aerobics or cross training footwear is recommended.
PowerFunk class will be incorporated to other power classes starting March 15 at 2:30 p.m. Regular PowerFunk class is every Wednesday at 7:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m.
