NPA's 39th anniversary unusually quiet: Army

AS OF now, all is calm in the hinterland villages of Davao City amid reports of intensified campaigns being conducted by political officers of the New People's Army (NPA) in the area.

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Ambal, commanding officer of the 73rd Infantry Battalion, said in an interview that the morale of the people in the area is very high.

"It's business as usual in the area," Ambal said.

Ambal also said they have not monitored any activity of the rebel group in his area of responsibility.

Surprisingly, no atrocity perpetrated by the rebel group during its 39th founding anniversary over the weekend was reported.

The 73rd Infantry Battalion covers the areas of Marilog, Calinan, Baguio, Tugbok, Paquibato, and Toril, all in Davao City, and also the areas of Santo Tomas, Panabo, Carmen, Dujali, and Talaingod, all in Davao del Norte.

The Police Regional Office Southern Mindanao earlier reported that members of the rebel group are intensifying their recruitments and campaigns in the far-flung villages of Davao City and Southern Mindanao. (CPM)
