Convoy tops Open bowling tourney

THOMAS Convoy emerged champion in the 3rd Datba Araw ng Dabaw Classic Open Tournament held at the NCCC Mall B3 Center Sunday evening.

Convoy beat former Davao Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) president Billy Magdale, who earlier gained the No. 1 spot of the Top 25 after 16 games, in the championship match.

Convoy received a champion's trophy and the top purse of P30,000, while Magdale settled for P20,000 and third placer Danny Usman with P10,000.

Ronald Martin placed fourth to receive a trophy in the Philippine Bowling Congress (PBC)-sanctioned three-day competition.

"Of the top 25, 12 qualified for the final eliminations where the top four players were determined. We, at the top four, played the step-the-ladder finals," Magdale said.

Some 80 tenpin players competed in the annual singles open bowlfest that attracted players from all over Mindanao and other parts of the country. (MLSA)
