Wednesday, April 02, 2008 Search for distinguished UP alumni on
IN CELEBRATION of the UP Centennial Year, the UP Alumni Association will grant special awards to distinguished UP Alumni for their outstanding achievements that have brought substantial benefits to society and distinct honors to the University and our country through the UPAA Distinguished Alumni Awards & Special Recognition 2008, announced UPAA president Gari M. Tiongco.
The 2008 categories of awards shall be given to broad areas of involvement and achievement rather than along professional lines. The categories are: Public service and good governance; Poverty alleviation & human development; Peace and social cohesion; Gender equality/women empowerment; Community empowerment; Environmental conservation and sustainable development; Entrepreneurship and employment creation; Institutional/corporate social responsibility; Culture and the arts; Science and technology; Education and health. Other fields or areas of award may be added to the foregoing list as defined by the achievements of the nominee.
In addition, Special Recognition will be given to individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding work for the University through the UPAA. Special Recognition shall include the following: Service to UPAA; UPAA Outstanding Alumni Chapter; UPAA Family Recognition; and UPAA International Alumni Achievers.
The awardees will be nominated by their fellow alumni and chosen by the UPAA Committee on Search & Awards. Deadline is on April 15. Mailed entries must be post marked not later than said date. Nomination forms may be downloaded from the UP Alumni Association website at www.upalumni.ph/ or at the UP Office of Alumni Relations at www.up.edu.ph/oarmain/.
The award ceremonies will be held during the UPAA Grand Centennial Alumni-Faculty Homecoming & Reunion on June 21, 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum.
