Tourism association looks into travel cost to Davao

THE high cost of travel to Davao City from the other metropolitan cities of the country is one of the factors that Davao Tourism Association (Data) is looking into.

In an interview Monday with Data representative, Arturo P. Boncato Jr., he said that one factor why the market of Davao is more on the upscale side is due to the high cost of travel.

"We have to show them the value for their money," Boncato said.

The problem, according to Boncato, is not with the returning tourists. "First time visitors of Davao never regret coming here," Boncato said, adding that the problem is getting the people to come here for the first time.

Boncato said there should be more effort placed in making the people visit Davao, especially those who have not yet set foot in Davao City.

At present, the market that comes in to Davao City are mostly corporate travelers who come to the city for conventions, and leisure travelers who visit the city for a round of golf and to visit the resorts.

"We still have to work on a lot of things, we have to build the momentum," Boncato said. (CPM)
