Army confident NPA won't win back masses
THE military is confident that the rebel group will no longer be able to gain the support of the masses, which will pave the way for the demise of the armed struggle.
In an interview with Major Medel Aguilar, chief of the 5th Civil Relations Group, he said the rebel group is already on a desperate mode, as it can no longer control the masses, unlike how things were during the 1970's and 1980's.

"The series of killings perpetrated by the rebel group against civilians reveal the fact that it is losing the support of the people, the masa," Aguilar said.
"It is the strategy of the communist movement to be able to sustain the struggle, it must by all means have the support of the people," Aguilar said, adding that "Even if it has to resort to drastic means to exact obedience from them."
Aguilar added that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), based on their intelligence report, is in a problem right now.
"Some still believes in the doctrine of Mao Zedong, which is the use of armed struggle, while the other group believes that change can be achieved through a parliamentary or political struggle," he said.
"We hope that it would be the latter which will prevail," he added. (CPM)
