Painting fun to learn this summer

SCHOOL is out. While parents and kids alike are glad for the long break, parents are also wary about how their kids would use up their vacation time. Some worry over their children getting bored, becoming couch potatoes or playing too much video and computer games.

Parents can worry less because there are options for children who want to spend their time productively. One of these is enrolling in an art workshop. Learning the art of painting can provide a lot fun for kids while they discover and unleash their creative talents.

GGSI-Aces (Arts, Crafts, & Entrepreneurial Skills) Technological Center, in collaboration with Gallery J and Creative Factory, offers a summer art workshop that aims to encourage both creativity and enjoyment through different artistic and psychomotor techniques and approaches.

"It is important that kids enjoy while they learn, which is why we came up with a program that is playful yet, can be an enriching experience for the child," GGSI-Aces president, Leny Castillo, said.

Open to kids from 5 years old and up, the summer art workshop starts today until April 18, Monday to Friday. Schedule of classes are: 9:30 a.m.-12 noon -- Basic Art for Beginners, and 1-3 pm -- Advance Art Course. Classes will be held at GGSI-Aces Techno Center, 2nd Floor, GGSI Building, Ilustre St., Davao City.

The workshop instructors are provided by the newly formed art group, Creative Factory, which consists of young, energetic and highly talented artists who are trained to give art lessons.

Creative Factory leader Jun Cayas, who has been conducting summer art classes with Gallery J since 2003, explains that their method of teaching puts emphasis on the scientific approach to creating lines, forms, shapes, color, texture, and art techniques.

Each participant is expected to finish three works at the end of the workshop. Their best works will be selected and exhibited at Gallery J, 2nd floor, NCCC Mall Matina for two weeks. Participants will also earn a certificate of completion.

Enrollment is still going on. Interested parties may contact tel. nos. 227-5834, 224-2671 or cell phone no. 0918-627-4559.
