Still no arrests of illegal fishers
By Carlo P. Mallo

A FULL blown investigation is underway on the alleged collusion between some police personnel and dynamite fishers in Compostela Valley as constant patrols in the province's municipal waters continue to yield nothing, despite reports of rampant illegal fishing in the area.

A local resident of the municipality of Mabini, Compostela Valley told Sun.Star Davao last March that the patrols implemented by Governor Arturo "Chiongkee" Uy have not yielded any offender as some police personnel are apparently tipping off the fishers to a scheduled patrol.

The dynamite fishers are believed to have come from Davao City after stringent measures have made it more difficult to use dynamite when fishing off the coastal waters of the metropolis.

In an interview Monday with Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, police regional director, he said he has called for a thorough investigation on the matter. "We are investigating as to who are involved," Caro said.

Caro vowed that proper sanctions would be meted out against those found to have colluded with the dynamite fishers.

The police regional director added that he has already discussed the problem with the provincial police officer of Compostela Valley.
