Tuesday, April 08, 2008 Leuterio to hold free clinic
A FREE basketball-coaching clinic will be handled by former Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) high school coach and now Chicago-based Ronel Leuterio on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
No definite venue has been named yet but Almendras Gym and Bankerohan Gym are being considered.
Leuterio said the two-day clinic would give a new perception on how basketball is being played.
"We're offering something different. We often talk about the European style, Korean style, or NBA style of coaching. It's about time we showcase the Filipino talent," Leuterio told sportswriters in press briefing at the Dencia's Restaurant Sunday evening.
Leuterio said he would introduce the "Spread Offense" which he learned through all the US college coaches-led seminars he attended in the past three years.
"It is an offense that is out of the box, something unconventional. The positions are different or at least they are viewed in a different way," he earlier said in an email.
"I guarantee that participants will enjoy what they'll do and learn from this clinic. I hope basketball coaches, players and enthusiasts will come and join us," Leuterio said.
The clinic is an undertaking of BAP-SBP regional director Regino "Boy" Cua in coordination with the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office headed by city sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go. (MLSA)
