Saturday, April 12, 2008 Bridge may be completed before due date: DPWH
THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Southern Mindanao is confident that the construction of the Governor Generoso I bridge will be completed before its due date at the rate the contractor has been working on the structure.
An update provided by the DPWH showed that as of April 6, 2008, Ciriaco Construction Corporation, the contractor of the bridge, has already been able to accomplish 69.02 percent of bridge construction while only 40 percent of the contract time has elapsed.
Construction on the bridge actually started last January 14, 2008 and is to be completed by August 10, 2008, just in time for the city's biggest festival, the Kadayawan.
The update of the DPWH also showed that the difficult part of the construction, the boring of piles, is almost completed. "Fourteen of the 16 bored piles were already complied with," the update said.
At present, the actual skeleton of the bridge can already be seen while work on the bridge starts from early morning daily until late into the evenings daily.
Ciriaco Construction Corporation was the winning bidder of the construction of the Governor Generoso I bridge which collapsed last April 2007.
Ciriaco was able to outbid five other multi-national construction firms with its bid of only P206 million, P10 million less than the original offer price of P216 million by the DPWH. (CPM)
