Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Davao pugs get support from Councilor
DAVAO City boxers can now train at night after Davao City Councilor Paolo Z. Duterte helped provide electricity line at the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (Abap) Davao gym located at the back portion of the Davao City Recreation Center says First District Councilor Edgar Ramos "Kapitan" Ibuyan to members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum.
"Ang daan nang problema namo kay walay suga ang gym so maglisod gyud ug praktis ang atong mga boksidor pag gabii. Pasalamat mi ug dako kay Councilor Duterte sa iyang pag atiman sa suga sa maong gym (Having no electricity had been the problem of our boxers since they could not train at nights. We are thankful to Councilor Duterte for attending to our concern)," said Ibuyan, who is also Abap-Davao president.
The lack of electricity in the gym was also raised by American boxing patron Ron Duran during his previous guesting at the DSA Forum.
Ibuyan said Duterte, who is the president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in the city, readily gave his assistance to Abap-Davao.
"This is a welcome development for our athletes because they're preparing for a handful of national tournaments," Ibuyan said in the vernacular.
Ibuyan cited brothers Engelbert and John Vincent Moralde, students at the Erico Nograles National High School who are all set to compete in the Palarong Pambansa 2008 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on April 20 to 26.
"I feel good about these two boxers. I'm confident they'll do good in Palawan," he said.
He said he would also send a team to the 2008 Smart National Youth Boxing Championships slated May 4 to 10 in Iloilo City. (MLSA)
