THE so-called unsung heroes, the teachers, have added another worthy achiever to the Department of Education (DepEd) Southern Mindanao in the person of a multi-grade mentor who really stands out among her peers.
She is the lone teacher for nine years at the Liniputan Elementary School in Pantukan, Compostela Valley. Awarded 2nd runner up during the 2007 National Search for Multi-grade Teacher Achiever, Annabell A. Isaac, 35, graduated cum laude from the University of Southeastern Philippines.
Isaac has survived crossing 27 rivers before she could reach the school from Pantukan.
Her students are 93 percent Lumads. She handles Mansaka, Mandaya, and Hibabawon students from Grades 1 to 6 teaching all subjects in all areas integrating all these with values.
In her 12 years in service as a multi-grade teacher, she single-handedly took the responsibility in improving the school and the plight of her students in terms of academic learning.
Isaac had to travel by horse or single motorcycle in crossing these rivers only to be with the community she has learned to love and nurture.
"To survive a work like this, the teacher should be dedicated, not only to teach the students but also to help the community," she said.
