Wednesday, April 16, 2008 National School, Mati bets sparkle in Arnis
THE Davao City National High School (DCNHS) bagged two gold medals, while the Pulang Bagani of Mati City clinched three golds at the close of the 4th Karambunal Arnis Competition at the NCCC Mall over the weekend.
DCNHS bet John Mercillo ruled the junior boys pin-bantamweight division over teammate Roy Gellona, who settled for the silver. Barangay Lamanan's Jon LOvitos and DCNHS' Ervin Lajo each got a bronze.
Raymond Gempero gave DCNHS its second gold after topping the junior boys feather-extra lightweight event. DCNHS also cornered the silver courtesy of Julius Almendras and the bronze medals through Marc Billy Arrieta and Jayson Labrado.
Lamanan salvaged a gold in the junior boys flyweight courtesy of Aljun Merenillo, while F. Bangoy National High School (FBNHS) player Lindsay Cataylo bagged the silver and the bronzes went to Lamanan's Glen Garcia and FBNHS' Reymart Labasa.
Adrian Cocharo of Heracleo Casco Memorial National High School (HCMNHS), Sta. Maria, Davao del Sur captured the junior boys half-lightweight gold at the expense of Larong Kalye-Mati City's Gian Flores, who went home with the silver.
Pulang Bagani's Carl Owen Peteros and Larong Kalye's Jessie Ellorin were the bronze winners.
In the senior boys division, Pulang Bagani's Raymond Traya and Javier Palma Gil won the extra lightweight 18 to 19 category gold and silver, respectively, while Larong Kalye's Archee Malintal and Sta. Maria's Jaymar Tuling copped the bronzes.
Pulang Bagani's Gilbert Serma (half middleweight) and Diane Monteverde (junior girls flyweight) also annexed golds while KDO-Davao's Andrew Saavedra won the extra lightweight 20-above gold.
Arnis Davao commissioner Mario Palazuelo said eight teams competed in the one-day event organized in cooperation with the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. and the Philippine Sports Commission. (MLSA)
