TENNIS in Davao City got a major boost with the arrival of a group of American tennis masters who will conduct an international caliber of training on young players and coaches.
Cerio Javellana, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the organizing Davao Association of Tennis Clubs Incorporation-Tennis Academy Foundation, said the four experts are Elmer A. Dolera, Ted Sayrahder, Brian Cunnif and Mark Allen of the United States Professional Tennis (USPTA). The visitors will be here to conduct a three-day training and seminar for free from April 18-20.
"We are bringing here an international caliber of training. This will be for the benefit of Davao City," Javellana said during the regular Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.
"This is the first time in Davao. The first time maybe in the Philippines," he added.
The first day of training starts Friday at the Ecoland 2 tennis courts. DATEC vice president Alex Bernan, who also graced the forum, said an opening ceremony will be held at 7:30 a.m. at Eco 1 before actual drills start.
The first day session include briefing sessions of kis who wish to participate.
The second day is on April 19. It will be for coaches who wish to secure accreditation as US professionals. Javellana said the visiting Americans will issue USPTA certification at the end of the day.
The three-day activity dubbed "Goodwill Tennis Tours 2008" is sponsored by Coca Cola Bottlers Philippines, Incorporation.
Bernan also announced the holding of the Milo Summer Youth Camp from April 25-30 at Eco 2.
