Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Bangoyan eyes Davao defense
YOUNG boxing sensation Balweg Bangoyan is set to defend his Philippine Boxing Federarion (PBF) junior featherweight crown in Davao City sometime in July.
Jose Abad Santos Mayor Alezander Wangkay, who is also known as Zander Khan, said he plans to have Bangoyan fight at the Almendras Gym or in a hotel card possible at the Casino Filipino in Grand Regal Hotel.
Bangoyan, 20, fashioned out another rousing win in a recent non-title fight during the 53rd Araw ng JAS in Davao del Sur last Sunday.
Bangoyan dominated veteran boxer Robert Dalisay on the way to scoring a 10-round points victory in front of a cheering hometown crowd.
It was Bangoyan's 11th win since turning professional. His record includes nine KOs with no defeats. Bangoyan won his championship belt in Manila over Elfer Paganpan in November last year by way of knock out in the ninth round.
Dalisay is the second boxer to last the distance with Bangoyan, a hard-hitting pug with excellent speed and outstanding defense.
Aside from having his ward fight in Davao City, Wangkay is also planning to send Bangouyan for a fight in the United States, particularly in Las Vegas where huge megabuck fights are held. (CRAM)
