In a status report prepared by the Provincial Board Secretariat, the body has acted upon 11 out of the 20 items. Two of the 11 are about complete. These are the Fisheries Code of Davao City passed under second reading last April 22 and the adoption of the Local Development Plan for Children approved last April 15, 2008.

The other nine items that are being heard by respective committees are the Updating of the Investment Code to include ICT; Enactment of the Environment Code of Davao City; and the updating of local measures on taxes, fees and charges. They also tackled the Establishment of new city facilities like the city college and city hospital; Comprehensive Health Care of Davao City; Enactment of the Older Persons' Welfare Code of Davao City; Updating the Comprehensive Devlopment Plan and Zonification Ordinance of Davao City; Enactment of the Food Safety Code of Davao City; and the Establishment of the Davao City Sports Commission.

Floor Leader Danilo Dayanghirang, in a telephone interview Friday, said the rest of the items would be discussed on May.

These include the Tourism Code of Davao City, the Enhancement of Agricultural Growth through Sustainable Agriculture, Adoption of a Sewerage System for Davao City Proper, Proper Use of Streets ordinance, the Establishment of a Public Safety Department, Creation of a Davao City Zoo, and the Patubig sa Barangay Potable Water System.

Scheduled to be tackled by January of next year is the legislation providing more benefits to city employees.

Dayanghirang also said that aside from these measures, other priorities include the amendment of the House Rules and addressing food security problems. GLP)
