67 individuals finish Tesda skills training

A TOTAL of 67 new skilled workers finished their training with the distinction as the first graduates of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority's (Tesda) Mobile Training Program in Southern Mindanao.

The training on wheels dubbed as, "Going Mobile Ako" is Tesda's joint program with local government units (LGUs) to train individuals in far-flung areas.

"Tesda provides the training module and the instructors while the local government units or the congressmen provide the materials. Kami yung pupunta sa lugar para mag-train because we understand that they cannot afford to travel to the city to avail of our programs," Tesda Southern Mindanao Information Officer Mafel Negrido-Gamale said in Friday's interview.

The graduation of 23 masseuses, 22 motorcycle mechanics and 23 farmers were held on April 16, 2008 at the City Council Covered Court, Government Center in Dahican, Mati City.

Davao Oriental Vice-Governor Joel Mayo Z. Almario, District II Congresswoman Thelma Z. Almario, and City Council Member Eric Rabat, who represented Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat, graced the graduation.

The "masahistas" completed the five-day Galing Masahista Ako! program -- a skill training program on Health and Wellness. They were awarded with training certificates and "kikay" kits containing the materials needed for massage such as hand towel, body powder, virgin coconut oil, lotion and rubbing alcohol.

On the other hand, 22 tricycle operators and drivers underwent the 100-hour training program. The graduates received "kikoy" belts, belt organizers with tools that are needed in maintaining and repairing tricycles.

The 23 Galing Mag-sasaka Ako! program graduates received seedlings and tools during their training in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

All the participants of the three training programs are residents of Mati City and neighboring municipalities. (GLP)
