IT IS the military that is putting into a workable concept the order to create an Investment Defense Force made by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in a recent visit in Davao City.
"There was a group that was assigned to work on that, and they have already submitted a concept," Lieutenant Colonel Rolando Bautista of the 10th Infantry Division said in an interview last week.
Bautista said they are in full coordination with the industries that have operations outside the urban centers. "Especially with the plantations and the mining sectors," he said.
For this year alone, the NPA torched a tower of a telecommunication company, raided the packinghouse of a banana company in Davao City, and attacked a mining firm in Compostela Valley, among others.
During her visit to Tagum City in Davao del Norte last February, President Arroyo ordered the creation of an Investment Defense Force to provide security for the businesses and investments that are subject to the atrocities of the rebel group. (CPM)
