Karapatan tags military as 'childish'

KARAPATAN accused the military of being irresponsible, childish, and ungentlemanly over its reaction to the group's call for the New People's Army (NPA) to conduct an investigation on the wounding of two children during an ambush.

Major Medel Aguilar of the 5th Civil Relations Group ridiculed Karapatan's call, saying it was all but a show so Karapatan could portray itself as fair.

In a statement, Karapatan said that "instead of acting as real gentlemen who regards the protection of civilians lives with importance, the military succumbed to the age-old dirty tactic of black propaganda that reeks of ignorance to the democratic rights of persons and organizations duly enshrined in the Philippine Constitution and other international laws that provide people their freedom and ensure their rights."

The group also dared Major Aguilar "to present (his) evidence to his allegations against Karapatan as fronts of the CPP/NPA/NDF in court."

"Aguilar's statement only exposed the hemline of the military: that it cannot and will not, in any way, heed calls for it to become responsible in exercising its job as a state security agent who is supposedly ruled over by civilian power," Karapatan Southern Mindanao head Kelly Delgado said.
