Bankerohan bridge is 87.8% complete

AT THE rate that the Governor Generoso Bridge I is being constructed, it is possible that the bridge will be finished even before its scheduled completion.

According to the latest report from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), construction of the P206 million bridge is already 87.761 percent complete as of May 4, 2008.

Construction of the bridge started only in January this year after DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane tried to reduce the cost of the bridge from an earlier proposed amount of over P300 million pesos to as low as P216 million.

During the bidding, Ciriaco Corporation won with a bid of only P206 million. The bidding process for Governor Generoso Bridge I has already been applauded by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for being very transparent.

Based on the contract, completion of the bridge has been slated to be on August 10, 2008 but may actually come earlier than expected as work has only so far consumed only 53.33 percent of the contract time.

The Governor Generoso Bridge I was condemned after one of its pier collapsed last April 2007. (CPM)
