Children's Art Exhibit

DRAWINGS of nine children who recently finished the 10-day course in basic drawing of the Children's Summer Art Workshop held at the Davao Museum in April were featured in an exhibit that opened last April 25.

The exhibited works were chosen from the drawing exercises in still life and landscape by the workshop instructor and exhibit curator Rey Bollozos.

Bollozos is a member of CREATIVEfactory, a Davao-based creative consultancy group and the Museum's partner in organizing the workshop and exhibit activities.

The ages of the workshop and exhibit participants ranges from 5 to 12 years old.
The young exhibitors were Kevin Ang, Kimberly Dennise Ang, Katrina Anya F. Mercader, Cecilia Reta, Anthony Frederick M. Sian, Andrew Ethan F. Sumalinog, Kristine F. Sumalinog, Kylie D. Tan, and Marie Isabelle Torres.

The art exhibit was the highlight of the summer art workshop program, which will be held annually at the Museum as museum director Sylvia Lorenzana announced on April 25th's workshop closing ceremony and exhibit opening.

"I hope this year's participants will also come back to next year's workshop and hopefully we could invite more kids to join," Lorenzana added.

Patria G. Montemayor, president of Davao Museum Foundation, Incorporated (DMFI) whose 10-year-old grandson Anthony Frederick M. Sian joined the workshop, was delighted with his grandson's interest in the classes.

"My grandson came late during the first day of the workshop but the next days he would go out of the house early to be at the workshop at the earliest possible time!" she said.

Twelve-year old Marisian Kristine F. Sumalinog also testified during the closing ceremony of her memorable experiences and lessons learned from the workshop.

"I learned a lot from the workshop. I learned about lines, texture, shapes, tones, and how to combine them to make good drawings. I had fun learning them," she said.

Sumalinog's eight-year-old brother, Andrew Ethan entertained the audience with an a capella song number afterwards. The closing ceremony was capped with the awarding of certificates to the workshop participants, instructor, and CREATIVEfactory, the Museum's partner in the activity.
