National Chess Federation of the Philippines Region 11 director James Infiesto on Sunday announced that the six-day tournament will give the youth and chess enthusiasts in Davao City the chance to earn Fide and NCFP ratings at minimal expense.
The event offers big cash prizes to the winners and will likewise give players from the neighboring cities and municipalities to to showcase their talents in a huge tournament.
The 9-round event using the Swiss System format offers P20,000 to the champion plus certificate and trophy, and P10,000 to the second placer with certificate and a trophy.
Third placer gets P7,000 plus certificate and a trophy, fourth P5,000 with certificate and a medal, and fifth P3,000 with certificate and a medal.
The sixth to 10th placers will also receive P1,000, a certificate and a medal each.
Special awards are also up for grabs, like the top Region 11 Non-Masters best performers, top senior, executive, employee, Class B and unrated players with zero NCFP rating.
Special awards will also go to the boys and girls participants as youngas from 18 years old to eight years old.
Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte, Davao City Councilor Leonardo avila III, NCFP president Prospero Pichay Jr. and PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez have been invited to grace the opening ceremonies scheduled at 10 a.m. on May 26.
The tournament is being organized by the NCFP 11 with the coordination of the city government of Davao thru the Sports Division Office, Councilor Avila and PSC.
The event partners are Gaisano South Citimall, JCI Durian City Inc. headed by JC Member Erich Alba, president of Region 11 Olympiad organizer, National Master Jonathan Tan of QT Marketing and Emmanuel Eva of Multicar.
Aside from the chess competition, an arbiter's seminar to be conducted by chief arbiter and international arbiter Wilfredo A. Abalos and national arbiter Engr. Allan H. Diez wil also be conducted during the event.
Registration fee is P500 inclusive of a tournament ID for the competition and P1,000 for the arbiter's seminar with an arbiter's title and certificate. (CRAM)
