"Wala gyu'y silbi ang mga regional wage boards nato. Wala gyud sila katuman sa ilang mandate nga mahatagan ug living wage ang mga trabahante. Panahon na gyud arun bungkagon sila," Alliance for Progressive Labor (APL) Secretary-General Michael Ibañez said in Thursday's phone interview.
Ibañez said that wage board in Southern Mindanao is still accepting petitions for wage increase until May 20.
"Pagkahuman aning petsaha lang daw sila mag set ug public hearing pero ang National Wage and Productivity Commission (NWPC) nagpagawas na pud daan ug statement nga dili mutaas sa P20 ang mahatag sa ubang regions," Ibañez said.
In a Sun.Star Manila's report Thursday, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said workers in Metro Manila are expected to receive a P20-wage increase after the terms of wage adjustment are settled.
The National Capital Region (NCR) wage board has decided on a P20 wage increase adjustment for minimum wage workers. The wage board said the increase might be P15 or P20 plus the cost of living allowance (Cola). (GLP with Sunnex)
