City Council standardizes road closures, tax exempts
By Grace L. Plata

THE Davao City Council has issued a new memorandum standardizing the approval of requests for road closures and tax exemption.

In a letter dated May 12, 2008, Vice Mayor Sara Z. Duterte said there is a need for a standard process to ensure order.

Effective immediately, the requests for road closure should be submitted for consideration in the session at least 14 working days prior to the date of the closure.

Such time will allow the City Council committee on energy, transportation and communication to coordinate with the Traffic Management Council (TMC).

The matter has been brought up in the City Council's executive sessions as the immediate approval of road closure has resulted to heavy traffic conditions the TMC is unprepared for.

Applications for tax exemptions in relation to shows and other entertainment ventures must pass through three readings.

The ordinance must be submitted as well to the Office of the City Mayor for consideration and approval of at least 14 working days before the show date.
