Council won't pursue other planned projects

THE Davao City Council will no longer pursue some of the planned projects set during their legislative planning they had in Manila last year.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The projects proposed are City Zoo, City Hospital and the City College. The City Zoo was a new proposal during the legislative planning, but the establishment of a City Hospital and a City College has been eyed for quite sometime.

Councilor Diosdado Mahipus, one of the proponents of both projects, earlier said that it was spurred by the fact that Dabawenyos are not given priority in the existing public hospitals when these are situated in the city. The city college, on the other hand, was proposed in the vision of providing the city people access to technical-vocational education.

"It will not be viable within the next two years especially with the current crisis, that's why we agreed to set it aside for now," Vice Mayor Sara Duterte said Tuesday.

In lieu of the discarded items, the vice mayor said they will concentrate on items from the committee on energy transportation and communication, which proves immediate. These include the Traffic Code, the ordinance regulating the set-up of cell sites in the city, and the amendments to the Truck Ban. (GLP)
