DIRECTOR'S Cut: (This portion features the thoughts of Regional Director of DepEd Region XI Susana Teresa B. Estigoy to all stakeholders and recipients of the efforts to improve the basic education) The following are the Regional Director's 'specific dreams' for DepEd 11 in her stint as director starting SY 2008-2009 and beyond:

1. Improve student performance and remove elem. and sec. schools of the region from the roster of low-performing schools

2. Reduce significantly the dropout rates and school leavers at both levels through a strengthened guidance program and implementation of the student-tracking system

3. Reduce significantly the number of black and red colored schools as to teachers, furniture, classrooms.

4. "Zero" annexes and private schools without permit to operate

5. Make HRIS an integral part of the official "life style" of Region XI key officials at the regional office and divisions

6. Strengthen the school-based sports development program of the region

7. See the regional science high school as a true model of a science high school, and its elementary level counterpart finally on its road towards being a regional pilot elementary science school

8. Foster a "culture of excellence" in planning, implementing, assessing and reporting accomplishments of programs and projects

9. Make every Regional XI key official /personnel at the regional office and divisions performance conscious, output -oriented and capable of anchoring / implementing programs and projects on the basis of the micro and macro environment of the DepEd and its linkages

10. Properties, including donated properties, properly recorded and inventoried

11. Resource materials for learning maximally utilized and contribution to learning identified

12. Region XI as a "malunggay region"

13. "Zero back-log" in the disposition of grievances and complaints

14. NEAP XI as the hub of human resource and instructional materials development .To serve primarily as a service provider for trainings and assessment.

15. Foster an era of co-existence, collaboration and healthy consultations with all stakeholders, within the regional office, division offices and the community

DepED Memorandum No. 244, s. 2008 serves as DepEd information and action document to ensure that students are properly enrolled and able to attend school by the first day of classes on June 10, 2008. The Oplan Balik Eskwela shall include the following components:

Convergence. Coordination with other government agencies involved in school opening matters.

Information Dissemination. The Regional Office of DepEd shall provide the public with important information. For questions, DepEd 11 can be contacted through telephone number (082) 227-9342.

Information and Action Center. The Oplan Balik Eskwela Information and Action Center shall be set up from June 2 to 13, 2008 at the main lobby of DepEd RO11, F. Torres St.

It is DepEd 11's pride that the region was chosen to pilot the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), a brainchild of the Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (Beam) and DepEd destined to improve the efficiency of DepEd personnel and finance departments in generating and transmitting teacher information such as salaries, leave credits, employment status, increments and papers need for loan applications to other organizational units.

HRIS is now to be initially rolled out to DepEd Central Office, NCR and Regions III, IV-A and IV-B. In DepEd 11, the following are the prime movers: Mrs. Virginia Alconcel - chair, Ms. Teresita Tambagan - co-Chair, Engineer Ricardo Guinto, Engineer Alim Maguindanao, Mr. Daniel Sunga, Mr. Pepito Silvan and Mr. Vicente Carballo Sr. Administrative Officers of Davao City and Davao del Sur respectively - members, Mr. Peter Klar, Beam Consultant, Mr. Red Rola, Beam IT Manager, Consultant and Director Estigoy and Dr. Walsh - advisers.
