Council approves creation of int'l relations body

THE proposed ordinance establishing the International Relations Board of Davao City passed its third and final reading in Tuesday's session.

The board will act as the advisory group for the City Council committee on international relations chaired by Councilor Rachel Zozobrado in efforts to strengthen the city's active participation in the international exchange of ideas and culture.

The board will also study the sisterhood agreements Davao City has with other international cities to gain more benefits from these partnerships. The city has six existing sisterhood agreements with - Keelung, Taiwan; Bitong, Indonesia; Manadao, Indonesia; Tacoma, USA; Inchon, Korea; Koror, Palau and Nanning, China.

Constituting the board are the mayor and the respective chairs of the council committees on international relations, on tourism, on trade and industry and on information and communications technology.

Also, the chief of the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center, City Planning and Development Officer, co-chair of the City Tourism Council, City Information Officer, City Agriculturist, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), president of the Davao City Colleges and Universities Network, chair of the Mindanao Economic Development Council, president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Directors of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda).
