Wednesday, May 21, 2008 Family of slain peasant leader seeks council help
THE family of slain militant leader Celso Pojas trooped to the City Council Tuesday, seeking the assistance of the City Council in their quest for justice.
They also denied any involvement with the New People's Army (NPA).
"Mga ultimo lang mi nga mga mag-uuma, unya pasanginlan nila akong mga anak ana. Kadtong si Celso, maski sundang, wala ko kakita nga armado (We are just lowly farmers, yet they accuse my children of being rebels. I have not seen my son Celso armed, not even with a bolo)," said Felix Pojas, father of the slain leader.
"Hinaut unta nga matabangan mi nila makab-ot ang tinuod nga hustisya (We hope that the City Council will help us achieve real justice)," Pojas added.
Vice Mayor Sara Duterte was out on official business Tuesday.
The family of the slain peasant leader vowed to return for a dialogue with city councilors after Celso's burial near the family residence in Fatima, Barangay Mandug on May 25.
Pojas was gunned down on Thursday morning in front of the Farmers Association of Davao (FADC) office in Barangay Ma-a. Maa was secretary general of FADC prior to his death. (GLP)
