Metrobank grabs solo lead
By Charles Raymond A. Maxey

THREE games into the Bankers Cup 2008, the defending champion is already showing its teeth.

Metrobank crushed Banco de Oro Saturday, 98-85, to post its third straight win without a loss and grab the solo lead in the eight-team field at the Evergold Recreation Center in Bo. Obrero.

It was a huge win for the defending champion Metrobank dribblers over the BDO cagers, who were hurt by the absence of their top gunner Nilo Temporal.

Jeff Solidum and Neil Te Eng Fo combined for 43 points to lead the Metrobank attack. BDO suffered its first defeat to drop to 2-1.

Plantersbank and BPI tied BDO at second place after scoring their second wins in three games.

Plantersbank defeated Securitybank, 81-60, and BPI outplayed RCBC, 96-83.

Enterprise Bank also won Saturday after coming from behind to down Citibank Savings, 76-65.

Leong led Plantersbank with 21 points, while Beunaventura added 17. Aldrin Samson had two crucial steals for Plantersbank in the third quarter, while James Machan came through with fine defensive plans and asists for the winning team.
