Sports Summit opens in DavOr
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez will be the guest speaker when the Provincial Sports Summit opens Wednesday at the Provincial Board (PB) Session Hall, Dahican, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

Ramirez confirmed to Sun.Star Davao his attendance to the Sports Summit that aims to formulate a sports development plan for the province, geared towards producing competitive athletes in the national and international levels.

Technical experts from the PSC, various National Sports Associations (NSAs), and the Philippine Sports Institute and the Philippine Center for Sports Medicine will be around to spearhead the two-day summit.

Governor Corazon Malanyaon, the host to the event, has invited all stakeholders in the province.

Malanyaon and Mati Mayor Michelle Rabat, during their hosting of the 2008 Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet, vowed to promote sports development in their area.

Davao Oriental had also hosted the 3rd Mindanao Friendship Games in 2003 and recently staged a `Bakbakan' boxing tournament featuring a Thailand pug against a homegrown talent in the main event. Davao Oriental bets dominated the meet.

A similar sports summit was held in Davao del Norte recently. A similar activity will also be held in Davao del Sur and Compostela Valley.
