By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Southern Mindanao is still awaiting the approval of the implementing rules and regulations of the new wage order that they have issued last Wednesday evening.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

The Secretary of Labor is expected to come up with the decision anytime now.

Upon receiving the approval of the Secretary of Labor, RTWPB Southern Mindanao will publish the new wage order, which will take effect 15 days after publication.

A new wage increase from private sector minimum wage earners in Davao Region will be implemented on a staggered basis with the issuance of Wage Order RB 11-15 on May 21.

Upon effectivity of the new wage order, the P16 Cola under Wage Order 13 will be made part of the basic wage, while the P10 Cola under Wage Order 14 will be integrated into the basic wage on September 16, 2008.

The new wage order, upon its effectivity, increased the basic wage with the integration of the P16 Cola under Wage Order RTWPB-XI-13, which brings the total minimum wage rate to P265 (P240 basic wage + P25 Cola) for the non-agriculture sector; P255 (P230 + P25 Cola) for agriculture; P265 (P240 + P25) for retail/service employing more than 10 workers and P234 (P209 + P25 Cola) for retail/service employing not more than 10 workers.

Effective September 16, 2008, the basic wage shall be increased with the integration of the P10 Cola under Wage Order RB XI-14 while retaining the new P15 Cola, which brings the same total minimum wage rates indicated above for all sector/industry classifications.
