Saturday, May 24, 2008 Wage order compliance rate up
THE compliance rate of business establishments and other industries in the implementation of the minimum wage in Southern Mindanao has increased from 62.5 percent in 2007 to 71 percent in the first quarter alone of 2008.
In an interview with Sun.Star Davao, Reynaldo Dennis Badilles, officer in charge of the Technical Support Services Division of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Southern Mindanao, said that although the ideal rate is at 100 percent, the 71 percent mark of the region could already be considered good.
Badilles added that they are monitoring the implementation year-round, except for Christmas when the monitoring is suspended. "We check the pay roll, and verify it through a random interview of at least 1 percent of the employees," Badilles said.
For erring companies who refuse to follow the wage orders issued by the Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in Southern Mindanao, owners of the businesses and industries are summoned.
"It is part of the due process, if they still do not implement the wage order, the regional director of the labor department issues an order of compliance, if they still refuse, then their properties will be confiscated for payment for the liabilities that they have," Badilles said. (CPM)
