The victim was identified as Bernardo Rabaña Chigo, alias Jun Muslim, 29, resident of Sebule, Los Amigos, Tugbok District, Davao City. He was an alleged leader and founder of the Chigo Robbery Group, which is behind several armed robbery cases in the area.

Report from the San Pedro police station said the incident happened at the Bolton Bridge around 4:55 p.m. Thursday.

SPO1 Obenza and PO2 Eguia immediately responded at the crime scene. Reports added that Chigo was recently arrested in Maramag, Bukidnon based on several warrants of arrest issued for murder and armed robbery cases.

Upon reaching Davao City, Chigo was transported onboard Mobile 50 of the Davao City Police Office, with PO3 Tagoy and SPO1 Ronilo Tirasol as escorts and driven by SPO1 Apolonio Bactol.

The policemen, who were from the San Pedro Police Station, were about to endorse Chigo to the Davao City Jail in Maa, Davao City.

Upon reaching Bolton Bridge, Chigo reportedly grabbed the service firearm of SPO1 Bactol, which resulted in a scuffle.

Two gunshots rang and Chigo was forced to release the firearm.

Chigo succumbed to two gunshot wounds, one on the right side of his head and another on the left chest. The police mobile vehicle brought Chigo to the Davao Medical Center (DMC) where he was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Russlin Huerta, the attending physician.

The body of Chigo was brought to the morgue of the DMC for autopsy. Police are still conducting further investigation on the case. (JAR)
