Cops: School ID is new lead to Bakbak shooting suspects
By Carlo P. Mallo

A SCHOOL identification card (ID) recovered inside the suspected getaway vehicle of the gunmen may lead to the identity of those responsible for the killing of two young men near the Bakbak restaurant Friday night.

Police identified the getaway vehicle through its color and plate number. It was found abandoned at Riverside on Magallanes street in Davao City last Saturday at about 4 p.m.

The vehicle was a white Toyota Corolla sedan with plate number LCE 747.

In a text message, Chief Inspector Alden Delvo of the San Pedro police said they recovered a school ID. The police considered the ID owner as the primary suspect in the case.

Delvo, however, clarified that they are still investigating the incident and they are still on the lookout for other possible suspects.

Police identified the two fatalities as Rommel Siglos, 22, of Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat and Rey John Tolentino, 23, of Cotabato City.

Siglos and Tolentino along with another companion identified as Jeffrey Tolentino were drinking at the Bakbak Restaurant on F. Torres Street around 11:40 p.m. when Siglos got into an argument with another group there.

Police said the three men transferred to another bar to avoid more trouble.

It turned out that the men they had an argument with didn't want to let what happened pass.

Just as the Tolentino brothers and Siglos were walking to their Toyota Hilux, the men from the other group shot them.

Siglos was hit in the head while Rey John was hit in the left portion of the chest. Both died from the attack.

Based on eyewitness accounts, the gunmen immediately left the area on board a white Toyota Corolla after the incident.

Three empty shells of a 0.9 mm pistol, a Nokia 7610 mobile phone, and cash amounting to P400 was found at the crime scene.
