Tuesday, May 27, 2008 Pacquaio to train behind closed doors By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
THE Wild Card Gym will be off limits to the public starting Monday when Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao resumes training in preparation for his World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight championship fight with Mexican David Diaz on June 28 in Las Vegas.
Philboxing.com reported that it was security chief Rob Peters who made the announcement shortly before Pacquiao went sparring against three different sparmates Saturday. Wild Card will be closed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. starting Monday and even friends of Pacquiao will not be allowed entry.
During the sparring sessions, flash photography and video were prohibited, underscoring the strict training procedure imposed by Pacquiao's American coach Freddie Roach.
According to Philboxing.com, Pacquiao sparred with Carlos Taangaro, Steve Quiñones and Gary McMillen, a boxer from Scotland who is slightly taller than the Filipino southpaw from General Santos City.
After the sparring, Pacquiao proceeded to hit the heavy bag, the double end bag and the speed bag. He also had several rounds of skipping rope then made some stretching and conditioning exercises with Nonoy Neri and coach Eric Brown.
