Mati kicks off 3-week anniversary celebration

THE City Government of Mati will officially start its three-week celebration to mark the first year anniversary of its citihood from May 28 to June 19.

The celebration will start with a program dubbed as "Pagsaulog" where dances and songs will be presented by the best talents of Mati along with artists from Manila.

On May 29 to June 11, barangay-based activities dubbed as "Paghiusa" will be held in all of the 26 barangays of the City of Mati. Sporting events, parlor games along with service oriented activities, such as distribution of senior citizen booklet, PhilHealth enrollment, seedling distribution, school visitations and health card distributions will also be conducted in every barangay.

"Pagpadayon" will meanwhile feature the 1st FGR Basketball Cup, which is in honor of former city mayor and former governor Francisco "Paking" Rabat. The open league will be contested by the best teams in the Davao Region. Exhibition games by two of the best collegiate teams from Davao City will also be held.

A worldwide search for the City of Mati's Ambassador of Goodwill will also be conducted, dubbed as Paghiusa.

"Pagsaulog" will be Mati's Independence Day rites and parade celebration on June 12 to be held at the city hall ground.

The multi-million peso Mati Public Market will also be inaugurated on June 19 with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo invited to be the guest of honor.

The celebration will culminate with a Misa ng Pasasalamat.

Other activities in line are the Mati Supercross; NBI, passport, PRC processing at the city hall ground; banca race; concerts; Mardi Gras and Fantasea presentation; tiangge at the at new public market; and chess and tennis tournaments. (BOT)
