Porras to face Demecillo

NEW boxing sensation Glenn "The Rock" Porras will fight durable Philip Jun Demecillo in a 10-round non-title bout in Midsayap town, North Cotabato in June 21.

Porras and Demecillo will headline the boxing card dubbed "Night of Rock And Roll," Philboxing.com reported.

Included in the cards are a dozen bouts featuring upcoming boxers of Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato against fighters from other parts of Mindanao. The boxing event will be free to the public.

Demecillo is best known for his spectacular knockdown of WBO jr. featherweight oriental champion Eric Canoy in a recent fight in Zamboanga City, which ended in a draw after a clash of heads in the 2nd round.

"Demecillo will be another good test for Porras," said North Cotabato Vice Gov. Manny Piñol, who manages and owns the Braveheart Boxing Club along with his brothers.

"If Porras succeeds against Demecillo, we will ask our US based boxing advisor, Cameron Dunkin, to match Porras with a boxer who is rated in the bantamweight division of either the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) or the North American Boxing Association (NABA)" Piñol added.

The vice governor said their target is to have Porras fight for the American continental title before the end of the year.

The 23-year-old Porras is a southpaw who holds a record of 13 wins (8 KOs) and 2 defeats. He is expected to be the third fighter of the Braveheart Boxing Club to move over to the United States to pursue his boxing career.
