Arellano vows to ensure witnesses get protection
By Rhodamae M. Hernandez

REGIONAL State Prosecutor Antonio Arellano vowed to do his best to ensure that witnesses needing government protection get what they need.

This came after he became the implementer of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Witness Protection Program-Southern Mindanao regional unit.

Arellano was the regional implementer of Central Visayas and Northern Mindanao in his past assignments.

"We will further ensure the affective prosecutions of criminal cases through the assurance of the witnesses. There are families that were being harassed, intimidated and in danger and we will be protecting these people," Arellano told Sun.Star Davao.

Arellano will be handling six cities and four provinces in the region.

"Medyo malaki rin ang scope and in these areas, these witnesses are risking their lives, they are helping the state, so we will give our humble assistance in return," Arellano said.

Chief City Prosecutor Raul B. Bendigo heads the Davao City unit.

With the establishment of the two units in the region, queries and applications for possible coverage under the program will be filed before the City Prosecutor's Office and the Office of the Regional State Prosecutor.
