Acas wins rapid chess

UNIVERSITY of Mindanao's Alvin Acas edged fellow 4.5 scorer Jose Maria College's Joerlz Gimony via the tiebreak to win the 31st BKCC-DCSC U-12 Rapid Chess Tournament title at the Blue Knight Chess Club along Bonifacio St., Davao City.

Gimony placed second while Raymondwil Mirantes of Sta. Ana Elementary School took the third spot.

Kyle Henry Ricarse of Monserrat Camp School was fourth while Starjen Candia of Magallanes Elementary School finished fifth.

UM's Denzyl Amar, MES' Allen Davin de Asis, Cabantian National High School's Geneses May Palero, SAES's Zsusza Grace Tabudlong and MCS' Mark Isaac Bernadas wounded up in the sixth to 10th place, respectively.

The top three winners of the five-round Swiss System format meet, which attracted 26 players, received chess magazines and instructional CDs. (MLSA)
