5 tremors jolted Mindanao this month

MINDANAO experienced five tremors for the first 11 days of June with the latest quake hitting Isulan, Sultan Kudarat in June 11.

Based on the record of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Wednesday's tremor registered at 5.1 in the Richter scale with Isulan as its epicenter.

A day before that, June 10, General Santos City also experienced a 5.0 magnitude earthquake. On June 2, Surigao City was the epicenter of a 3.5 magnitude quake at around 9:36 p.m. Earlier that same day, Lanuza in Surigao del Sur was also the site of a 3.7 quake.

Agusan del Norte also experienced an earthquake on June 2 that registered 4.7 in the Richter scale.

Last month, tremors also struck in Tagum City, General Santos, and Digos in Davao del Sur.

The month of March 2008 had the most number of earthquakes in Mindanao with majority of them happening in Kidapawan City. Of all the mentioned tremors, no property or lives were reported damaged or lost. (BOT)
