Friday, June 13, 2008 AFP probes bullet holes in US Navy med chopper
THE military has launched a thorough investigation on the bullet holes found in a US Navy Medical Team helicopter in Central Mindanao.
Army 6th Infantry Division spokesman Colonel Julieto Ando said the two bullet holes from an M14 rifle were found in the MH60S Night Hawk Chopper of the US Navy Medical Team.
The medical team conducted a medical mission in Maguindanao and Shariff Kabunsuan Province, along with Filipino soldiers.
Ando said the helicopter is not for combat and carried civilians who were set to undergo treatment at the US Mercy Ship with a medical team from the United States.
Authorities have already discovered which part of the province the MH 60S Night Hawk was shot at and has launched investigation upon orders of 6th ID Major General Raymundo Ferrer.
Due to the incident, the US Mercy Ship pulled out of Polloc Port in Parang, Shariff Kabunsuan Province. However, the RP-US Humanitarian Mission successfully completed the missions in Maguindanao and Shariff Kabunsuan Province.
Hundreds of residents in the area benefited from the medical and dental outreach program, including the construction of farm-to-market roads as well as repairs of schools and health stations. (Edgardo Fuerzas)
