Friday, June 13, 2008 Man killed while lining up for rice
A MAN, identified by bystanders as a rebel returnee, was shot dead by two unidentified men while he was lining up to buy rice at a National Food Authority (NFA) outlet in Agdao public market, Agdao, Davao City on Wednesday night.
Based on investigations conducted by PO2 Reden Cuevas of the Sta. Ana police station, the victim was identified as Danilo Abellaneda, 39, a barker who resides at the back of dxGO radio station along R. Castillo Street in Agdao.
Noel Mamba, who was with the victim when the incident happened, told the police that they were having a few drinks outside the Manuel Tan store in front of the Agdao market around 11 p.m. whiling the time away while reserving their place at the long queue before the rice outlet opens the following day.
"Nag-ulan-ulan man, nag-inom mi'g junior (lapad). Wala ko kabalo unsa'y trabaho ato niya (It was raining and we drank a bottle of Tanduay. I don't know what his job was)," Mamba said.
Talks among the people, however, said the victim was someone who earned from watching cars and he has had recent spats with people who queue everyday for their rice.
Abellaneda succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head that caused his instant death. The assailants immediately fled after the incident.
Police found one empty shell of a caliber .45 gun at the crime scene and is now under the custody of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco).
Senior Inspector Ranulfo Cabañog, chief of the Sta. Ana police station, and SPO1 Repito are conducting further investigation on the incident. They have yet to determine whether Abellaneda is indeed a rebel returnee.
"Wala pa'y klaro kay gi-deny man sa asawa sa victim nga rebel returnee iyang bana, sabay-sabay lang daw sa RRA (His wife denied he is a rebel returnee)," Repito said. (RCO)
