Saturday, June 14, 2008 Chadric players turn back Misamis
THE Davao Chadric Builders turned back Misamis Oriental West, 2.5-1.5, Friday in the National Intern-Province Chess Team Championship in Tandag, Surigao del Sur.
After drawing with Davao City in the first round, 2-2, the Chadric woodpushers have accumulated 4.5 points and are still in contention.
Chadric, whose participation was bankrolled by ardent chess backer Engineer Enrico Vanta of the Chadric Builders and Construction Supply, relied on its top boards against Davao in the first round.
National Master Alex Lupia, the top board player, and Henry Lopez, won over Davao's NM Carlo Rosaupan and Vincent Umayan, respectively.
The Davao team struck back courtesy of the victories of Jerwell Andoy and Carlo Doctolero.
The Chadric bets then followed that up with a huge win over the NM Levy Mercado led-Misamis Oriental West.
Vanta is the team's manager with Sammy Yu as the team captain. (CRAM)
